Lolea No. 1 - Red Sangria & Lolea No. 2 - White Sangria

Aragon, D.O. Calatayud, Spain

IMG_4714.JPG

Happy CANADA day long weekend! I thought since it's the long weekend, I would celebrate with 2 bottles for this weekends wine pick! And since it's a fun and celebratory weekend, I thought I would pick Sangria! The red sangria is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Tempranillo combined with natural orange and lemon juices, pure cane sugar, a touch of spice and soft frizzante water. The white sangria is a blend of Mediterranean Muscat and Airen wine combined with natural orange and lemon juices, pure cane sugar, a touch of pure vanilla and soft frizzante water. The red is available at most BC Liquor Stores and the white is only available at select private liquor stores. Both are only $14.99 and I would recommend buying at least 2 bottles at a time. This stuff goes down easy and it's so summery and refreshing! Happy Canada Day everyone and hope you have a fantastic weekend!

Ironstone Obsession Symphony 2012

Calaveras County - California

IMG_4702.JPG

This wine is VERY unique! The varietal is actually called 'Obsession Symphony' which is a cross between Muscat of Alexandria and Grenache Gris. This varietal was created at the University of California in 1948 by Dr. Harold Olmo. The nose on this wine is absolutely beautiful! It's full of tropical peach, pears and honeysuckle. It's creamy and luscious! I think this wine would go great with spicy foods like thai or indian curries. It's also available at BC Liquor Stores for $16.99! Like always, I suggest you confirm availability before going to the store. If you do try this wine, let me know your thoughts! Did you like it/hate it or just think it was ok? Have a fantastic weekend everyone!

Carchelo 2011

Jumellia - Spain

This wine is available at private liquor stores (Marquis Wine Cellars carries it for less than $20). It's a blend of 40% Monestrall, 40% Tempranillo and 20% Cabernet Sauvignon. It's a great deal for only $20. It's perfect for a 'grab & go' wine. You could pair it with a burger nicely or just drink it on it's own. It's full bodied, has a beautiful elegant nose, perfectly ripen berries and great finish. If you want to hear more about this wine, I recently did a video with John the owner of Marquis Wine Cellars that you can watch and check out for yourself.

Domingos Soares Franco Privada 2013 Moscatel Roxo Rosé

Setúbal - Portugal

IMG_4029.JPG

This wine has recently arrived on the market and it's just in time for the great sunshine we're experiencing! It's a dry (yes, thats right - DRY) 100% Muscatel Roxo rosé. It's a nice light salmon colour. I found there to be lots of rose petals and strawberry notes. It's an all around great summer sipper. It's also something different and a little out of the ordinary. I think it's the perfect wine for this weekend's wine pick! It's available at BC Liquor stores for $20.99 but I suggest to call ahead to confirm availability. It may also be available at the private stores, check before going! Let me know if you try this wine and what your thoughts are! Enjoy the weekend everyone!

Père & Fils Cinsault Syrah 2013 - Rosé

Languedoc-Roussillon Region - France

This wine is available at some of the private liquor stores and is about $14.99 but I still recommend calling the liquor store to confirm beforehand. I found this to be a fuller rosé, refreshing with light berries and a soft tangy finish.

The Miguel family has been tending vineyards in the heart of Languedoc for many centuries. In 1791, they acquired the home estate Château Cazal Viel, which now covers 140ha. Mr. Laurent Miquel combines his ancestor's wine making wisdom with his innovative approach and has made this wonderful wine!

Edmeades 2011 Zinfandel

Mendocino County, California, USA

I first tried this wine several months ago and was just reminded of it again while scouring the BC Liquor store this week. This wine is lovely! It's a nicely balanced California Zinfandel with great red berries, plum and structure. The tannins are soft and silky with a smooth finish. You could totally drink this on it's own or at a weekend bbq. It was priced at $22.97 at BC Liquor. Let me know if you end up grabbing this gem and what your thoughts are on it! I hope you enjoy it and have a wonderful weekend!

Kung Fu Girl 2013 Riesling

Washington, USA

IMG_4128.JPG

I first came across this wine about 6 years ago and I loved it then. The label/branding of this wine really caught my attention. I know this is a silly bit of information about me that you may not care about, but back then, I decided that I wanted this to be my wedding day white wine. This was based on the fact that I'm asian (just don't ask me what kind of asian - see what I'm referring to HERE), I know martial arts, my nickname use to be Shinobi and I like to kick-ass - So, obviously this wine was a winner and I fell in love with it.

On top of that, it's is a good wine and less than $20. This vintage is floral, refreshing and fruity. It's available at  various BC Liquor Stores as well as many of the private liquor stores.

Oh and if you love thai food (I think you're crazy if you don't), this is your wine! It will pair nicely with thai curries, or other spicy asian dishes. Please let me know if you try this and what you think of it too! Enjoy and have an fabulous long weekend!

Quinta do Crasto Tinto 2011

Douro - Portugal

I just tasted this yesterday at the Portugal tasting here in Vancouver. I know Portuguese wines are daunting (they freak me out too) so I won't even get into the 4 grapes in this blend. But be adventurous this weekend and grab this bottle!

It's raspberries and roses with a velvet and elegant finish! Very smooth! It's available for $19.99 (call store ahead of time to confirm availability and price).

Ok, for those dying to know the grapes, here they are: Tinta Roriz, Tinta Barroca, Touriga Franca and Touriga Nacional.

KONO - 2013 SAUVIGNON BLANC

Marlborough - New Zealand

IMG_3820.jpg

This wine is available at most BC Liquor Stores for $15.99* (Check availability & price to be sure!)

Since it's feeling like summer is just around the corner. I figured we should be sipping on some summer inspired wines! This one is perfect!

Kono wines is 100% own by the Māori people of New Zealand. So that makes this wine quite unique in itself. This wine is made in with soil knowledge and cultivation methods passed down from our Māori forbearers. For $15.99 I think this wine is a deal! It has nice fresh lemon and citrus qualities with a light tangy finish.
