Sparkling Wine

Vancouver Wine Club for Beginners - Champagne & Sparkling Wine Tasting

Earlier this month I attended the Vancouver Wine Club for Beginners Meet Up. It's held once a month at Sheraton Wall Centre and you can find out more information on the club here if you're interested in attending yourself. Each month they host a great little wine tasting that is fun, informal and not intimidating for those wanting to learn more about wine. I recommend checking it out for sure!

This video is just some footage I took during the tasting as well as a little interview I did with Jay Whiteley, Assistant Wine Director, at Hawksworth Restaurant here in Vancouver. Take a peek for some quick and basic sparkling wine tips and fun footage!

Thanks for watching and I hope you learnt some fun little tidbits on sparkling wine and champagne :-)

Diary Entry #23 - NV Flor Prosecco di Valdobbiadene

So with the upcoming NYE 2013 celebrations, I thought it would be a good idea to do a vlog on a sparkling wine. I decided to invite my friend, Bart to do this vlog with me because I feel that sparkling wine is always more enjoyable when shared with another.

We decided to pop open a bottle of Flor Prosecco. This wine is produced by the Bastianich family. This is a family of well know Italian Chefs. Lidia Bastianich has worked on cooking tv shows as well as has several cook books. Her son Joe, is also a chef. Joe was featured on Master Chef and has partnered up with Mario Batali in the restaurant industry. I was told that this Prosecco was made to be a glass pour in one of their high end restaurants on the east coast.

This wine was soft and sweeter than I had expected. It was very friendly on the palate and both Bart and I enjoyed it. You can watch our full opinions/views on the wine in the video below. It was delicious and I hope you enjoy the video as much as we enjoyed filming this and drinking the wine :-)

This wine can be found at BC Liquor stores for $19.99.

I wish you all a HAPPY NEW YEAR and may this upcoming year be full of joy, laughter, good health and happiness!

Diary Entry #9 - Episode #8 Cristalino Cava Brut NV

Hey gang! Sorry for the delay in getting this out to you! I've been busy with family stuff, then went away, now I'm back but sick! It was important for me to post this review so here it is!

This bubbly that I've reviewed is the popular Cristalino Brut Cava NV which is a spanish bubbly wine. All "Cava's" are Spanish bubbly and they are made in the traditional method (2nd stage fermentation in the bottle, not a tank).

Unfortunately when I did this review, I didn't have a sparkling wine glass, so the bubbles weren't done justice but...oh time I'll have the proper glasses on hand! Because this sparkling is made in the traditional method, you will get smaller, finer bubbles than if it was produced in the tank method. But the glass really plays a big part in 'showing off' the bubbles. If you don't have a proper sparkling wine glass, you will virtually have no you will see in my video. So this is why it's important to have the right kind of glass! I do want to point out that even though, you don't see the bubbles in the glass, you will still taste the bubbles, so it doesn't 'ruin' the wine, just the presentation won't be as good as it could be.

This wine had a nice crispness on the nose. I smelt green apples and lime. Being a brut, this wine is dry to the taste and had lots of the apple and lime flavours. I also did get a little bit of toastyness on the palette as well. This wine retails for $11.99 at BC Liquor stores and for that price, you can't go wrong! It's nice, fresh, lively and would be a great and inexpensive wine to 'pop' for your new years celebration. Or if you wanted to have mimosas, this wine would also be good. It's decent quality for the price and I don't think you can go wrong!

Let me know if you have tried this wine and what you think of it! Also, let me know what you're drinking this NYE!

Have a safe NYE and best wishes to everyone for 2012!
