Diary Entry #10 - Episode #9 2009 Morse Code Shiraz

Here is my vlog of this wine...blog will be below that! I hope you enjoy!

Happy New Year Everyone! I know, I know…it’s a little late. But I’ve been sick and I’m finally on the mend now so I’m catching up on things! I hope if you’re reading this you are healthy and have had a much better start to 2012 than I did!

Welcome to my first wine review of 2012! I decided to review the 2009 Morse Code Shiraz, by Henry's Drive from Padthaway Australia (In my video review of this I accidently said this wine was from Harry's drive...My mistake! It's HENRY'S Drive!). This wine costs $13.99 at BC Liquor stores and I’m sure you can find it at other private liquor stores throughout BC and I think Alberta as well.

Typically when I do wine reviews, I like to open the bottle as I’m filming and just go off the cuff and give my first impressions. This time I thought I would do things differently and open the bottle, do a quick tasting and then let it breath a bit and then do my review. Often times it’s good to let a wine breath a bit before consuming. I think this is a perfect example of a wine that needs to breath/open up a bit. If you’re going to try this wine, I suggest to let it breath for about 20 minutes or so.

When I first opened this wine, I got a lot of unripe tart red berries, and some spice on the nose. As the wine opened up, the tartness softened and the young red berries really came forward on the nose and the palette. Typically with many Shiraz’s you will find they are jammy and full of ripe red berries. I found this one to be different because it was full of young unripe fruit and was much more vibrant and crisp tasting.  I really liked how the fruit really came out on the palette and the tartness of the wine really rounded things out. I think this medium bodied wine is great on it’s own but would also pair nicely with a soft cheese like a triple cream brie, rack of lamb or steak.

Let me know if you check out this wine for yourself and what your thoughts are on it! Now that I’m healthy again, I’m really looking forward to doing more vlogs as I really have missed it!

Wishing you all the very best for the New Year and I’m so thankful for all of your kind words and support!

Thank you! :-)
